In this essay, we are going to study Victorians' view on the Empire. We are first going to study how the Empire was an emblem of soft power and how it used different means to earn the population's approval, then how the same Empire represented economic instability and inequality and last but not least, we are going to decipher how the Empire represented political conflicts and its impacts.

It is now a slang term to determine people that are rather prudish, uptight and old-fashioned. The British Empire was the whole of the commonwealth including Britain that were ruled under the same government. It is a term determining the territories under the rule of Britain. Conclusion : In conclusion, we may say that, for the Victorians, the Empire represented pride thanks to their soft power (large territory and racial minorities taking care of the Victorian people when they visited their country). It also represented economic instability with the cost of the colonies that was caused by the liberals which was criticized by the conservative party and thus Benjamin Disraeli. Victorian saw the Empire as a political stake as well with numerous wars and political conflicts that happened because of it. However, we may wonder how the fascination for the colonies reinforced the idea of white supremacy. [...]
