Historians today consider the Great Depression to be one of the darkest times in American history. The economy was at an all time low and in desperate need of assistance. President Franklin D. Roosevelt devised a plan called the New Deal. The New Deal was a series of government enforced regulations and programs aimed at aiding the American people out of the depression. These programs, however; were unsuccessful in their attempt to reconcile the depression. Many of the programs failed to aid all Americans.
[...] The New Deal failed in helping to regulate business with the National Recovery Administration. The NRA, established in 1933, sought to bring business leaders and government officials together to talk about codes regarding the work place such as wages, working conditions, lay offs, etc. What made this program unsuccessful was that participation by all big businesses was not mandatory. The NRA was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1935[3]. The court stated that this sort of government program was only allowed to regular trade among states, not within them. [...]
