The Renaissance was a period in European history marking the transition from the Middle Ages to Modernity and covering the 15th and 16th centuries. It was associated with great social change. The intellectual basis of the Renaissance was its version of humanism, and the rediscovery of classical Greek philosophy 'Man is the measure of all things.' This new thinking became manifest in art, architecture, politics, science and literature.
[...] To conclude, during the English Renaissance, people used the past and their former rules and mistakes to influence their present and future marked by new discoveries and knowledge which were more accessible to anyone. III. Renaissance in France Thirdly, I am going to talk about the Renaissance in France which was mainly influenced by the Italian one and as other countries, was influenced by many developments. Thus, they combined the practical with the pleasurable. To me, the piece of art which represents the most of the Renaissance is the statue David by Michelangelo created in 1504. Indeed, Michelangelo focused on balance, harmony, and the ideal form of anatomy to create his David. Therefore, the Renaissance in Italy was inspired by the importance of harmony during Antiquity to promote beauty in their world and to make their society a better world to live in. II. [...]
[...] The English Renaissance is different from the Italian Renaissance in several ways. The dominant art forms of the English Renaissance were literature and music in the opposite of visual arts which were less significant. This period of time was characterised by many changes such as the beginning of capitalism in England through capital holding companies for example or the beginning of many partnerships which helped artists like Shakespeare to prosper thanks to a more open climate. Furthermore, this period was also marked by the invention of printing, the number of people who could read began to grow and books became less expensive and more accessible to the population. [...]
[...] Furthermore, the Medici family which was really influential during this time was convinced of the importance of spending money to promote beauty, truth and wisdom in the world. They saw art as a form of education and were able to spend a lot of money on artists for them to show the importance of kindness and compassion and to promote serenity in their world. They expressed abstract philosophical ideas in a concrete yet beautiful way. Moreover, the Medici were inspired by Antiquity and especially the philosopher Epicurus. Indeed, they believed that studying the achievements of the past was the key to creating a glorious future. [...]
[...] To conclude, the Renaissance marks the end of an era which is the Middle Age and the beginning of a new one. It is considered as a transition because of the constant need to go back in time and to be inspired by the past but also a need to move forward due to all discoveries. Indeed, people from the Renaissance decided to look back in time, in Antiquity or just previous periods of time, in order to improve their society through a requirement of perfection. [...]
