The internship is in EU Indirect Procurement at Amazon. I was based in the EU Headquarter in Luxembourg. The two categories which I was working on were Temp Labor and Manned Guarding in all Amazon warehouses across Europe. Nowadays Amazon is growing a 30% this year. Many new sites are to be launched across the EU. Moreover, robotics is another part of the challenge. The latter entails to find suppliers who can cope with Amazon needs in the long run. My main project was to work on the new sourcing model both for the temp labor and manned guarding categories.
[...] How many suppliers do we need per country in both categories? How can Service Level Agreements (SLAs) be respected and optimized across the EU? How many temporary workers and manned guards do we need per year and how much is it? Can Amazon hire directly instead of working with agencies? In parallel, I was also collecting data on the hourly rates for manned guarding and at the cost breakdown with temp labor agencies mostly in France and Spain. [...] Being part of Amazon includes to understand the internal process and tools required in each department. I felt like a fish in the ocean at first and then I have learned and been curious to deliver results and take ownership of the projects I supported. It is also such a good training to acquire knowledge and the proper English in terms of procurement, business, legal and finance. Some big events such as ‘All Hands' among the 2500 employees based in Luxembourg were organized to motivate and thank ‘Amazonians' for their work. [...]
[...] - I build an overview of the various SLAs in all EU Amazon countries in 2 weeks and business lines aligned with the finance department. - I have supported both categories in the RFI tender stage in contacting suppliers and creating the RFI and RFP events in COUPA. Personal aspects (self-awareness, management techniques, working in a team, ) First and foremost, working at Amazon is a very cosmopolitan, young and fast-moving environment which is very motivating to work.
