Hughes et al., (2022) highlight power as the ability to effect change in others and influence their behaviours, attitudes, viewpoints, and norms. Concurrently, they highlight influence independently as the degree of the actual change. In organizations and hierarchical setups, leaders often hold the power and potential to influence others, above, laterally and beneath their ranks. Therefore, leaders must understand extensively, the factors and/or situations that affect their power and influence over their followers to ensure their goals and visions and those of their organizations are achieved.
[...] Ken Blanchard, (2017) highlights servant leadership as the greatest leadership style to influence change in your subordinates. He highlights that it is important for employees to feel their leader cares, listens and wants to help them. This environment makes them feel safe as highlighted by Simon Sinek, (2014) and allows them to blossom into great employees and great achievers in their roles. In this environment, employees do not create resentment or resistance even when punished as they are convinced their leader cares about them. [...]

Conclusion Conclusively, leaders need to create an environment where their subordinates work because they feel the willingness to do so rather than solely because they are expected to, as subordinates can also use the same tactics as leaders to possess power and influence over fellow employees and create resistance leading to stagnating goals and low work outputs from teams. Figures of authority must understand that a leader's influence in a team or group is significant in illustrating the power they hold, as followers can also similarly have the power and influence to frustrate their leaders. For instance, a well-liked popular employee may easily influence other employees to go against their leader hence illustrating more power and influence over the group than their leader.
