PetSmart stores offer obedience training and they have grooming for animals offered in many store. PetSmart has donated more than 42 million dollars to animal welfare programs and has saved the lives of more than 2.6 million pets through its in-store adoption programs.
PetSmart offers 401 (k), medical, dental and vision insurance, discounts on food and product, and paid vacation with additional benefits for full time associates. PetSmart was found by Jim Dougherty. The company adopts an average of 1000 pets per day from the PetSmart charities Adoption Centers, which is located inside the PetSmart stores. In 1987, PetSmart began as two stores that opened up in Phoenix Arizona. In 1988, they opened stores in Colorado and Texas. In 1989, PetSmart opened its first full service pet grooming salon in Littleton, Colorado. In 1990, they opened nine more stores. In 1991, they entered California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Missouri, Illinois, and Nevada.
In 1992, PetSmart opened 32 new stores, expanding operations in Utah, Georgia, Florida and Idaho. In 1993, PetSmart raised more than 125 million dollars through an initial public stock offering. By then the company had increase to 169 stores. PetSmart, Inc. (NASDAQ: PETM) is the largest specialty pet retailer of services and solutions for the lifetime needs of pets. The stores are stocked with more than 12,900 products, all available at everyday low prices.
