Any successful business will always be doing whatever it takes to have a leg up on the competition, and make sure that they stay successful. There are ten trends in business, government, and non-profit organizations that affect business and administrative communication. These trends are: Technology changes, including information overload and data security versus privacy; a focus on quality and customers' needs; entrepreneurship; teamwork; diversity; globalization and outsourcing; legal and ethical concerns; balancing work and family; job flexibility; and the rapid rate of change. Regardless what the job is, there will be business communication involved in one way or another. Below I will talk about business communication in my job, and talk about a few of the trends I have seen in my workplace. Without sharp business communication skills, it would be a pretty rocky road to success.
I am a window and door salesman at one of the biggest home improvement stores in the country, without business communications, my job would be very tough, if not impossible, to do. When a customer comes in and would like to inquire information on doors and windows, I will talk to them and get an idea of exactly what it is that they are wanting. Once I have an idea of what they want, I begin building them a quotation "quote" in my computer system, this computer system is connected to almost every vendor that I do business with. Upon completion of the quote the customer will then decide whether or not they would like to make the purchase. If the customer decides to buy the product then I will send the order to the vendor, once the order is received by the vendor it is up to the vendor and myself to make sure we communicate so I can give the customer the necessary information about the exact arrival date of the product.
