During the first semester of this third year as an IBL, thus engaged in a dual educational program, I have been in Italy for a six-month period of Erasmus. Of course as an international student, I had to discover entirely a new country, new norms, values, and a way to live that I did not know before. This experience was rich in knowledge, and I met other students from approximately ten countries. If we count only those who are from outside Europe!
[...] During the preparation of my stay in Italy, I would have to consider diverse point. At least in two categories, the first one material ones, and the second one personal. One the one hand, material points would be linked with the fiscal codices, which is a kind of ID absolutely mandatory in Italy to conclude any contract or rent an apartment. Then it is important to be registered on European and national registers if I am an attorney because this is a regulated profession, thus to work I should have a kind of license, and because I am a foreigner this could take few weeks. [...] All our institutions, parliament, constitution, freedom, courts, police, and even the cadastral system have been built under the Napoleonian era. Thus, practically all our institutions have been copied in Italy during the past centuries, and there are only few modifications about the principles to be followed. To conclude and to talk about trade unions in Italy, the fact is that the population since a few decades has had a decreasing public opinion and confidence in them. The reason behind this breakdown of trade unions in the country is linked with the emergence of thousands of little enterprises where trade unions cannot intervene. [...]

Figure Unemployment Rate in Lombardy The unemployment rate of around 4.9% which is that of Lombardy is particularly interesting, since in this region are located the largest law firms, lawyers, or consultancies. So, for a foreigner wishing to settle and then work in Italy in one of these fields, it seems essential to target a region which, like Lombardy, has a low unemployment rate, in order to maximize the chances of quickly finding a job.
