India is poised to become a global IT superpower is not a revelation. Indians dominate the IT sector workforce, not only in US, but all over the world. In the last year or two, countries like Germany, France, and Japan have opened doors and are hiring hundreds of thousands of Indians in the IT sector. The impressive performance of Indian IT companies; the top three homegrown IT companies – TCS, Infosys and Wipro – have each a turnover of over US$ 1 billion. A multinational presence, along with a pioneering global delivery model which uses modern communication technology to deliver different components of IT services from locations around the world, has made these companies serious contenders in the global IT sector. For instance, Infosys has 650 international professionals working in its 55 offices around the world. It has recently hired four top consulting professionals and plans to expand its team of international consulting professionals to 500 in three years. The story doesn't end with Infosys. In an attempt to move up the value chain, many leading Indian service vendors are now trying to build consulting skills to offer end-to-end solutions that capture greater value. With so much happening on the delivery front, it is probably a good time for these companies to also start building stable brands - brands that stands for certain values; brands that command respect; brands that will wash away image of “ India as an IT sweatshop, without any technological attributes”.
