Polythene is one of the most widely used materials today. It has permeated practically every aspect and walk of life. From the positive to the negative its always there, the positive being some of the products made from it that uphold essential functions in various industries and the negative being the inherent risk to the environment. No document on polythene would be complete without a background of what polythene actually is. Polythene can be better explained only if we take a small trip into the science and history of the material. Through these pages we will explore the market of the polythene industry in Europe and cover some of the names that make a big difference, like SABIC Global and British Polythene Industry, in this industry. Later on in this paper we will also take a look at companies like Dow Chemical Company, Chevron Phillip Chemical Company LLC, SABIC Global, British polythene industry and a few others while concentrating on the European companies more. However the main focus of this paper will be companies like SABIC and British Polythene Industry. The German chemist Hans Von Pechmann was the first to synthesize polythene. The preparation was quite an accident. It happened in 1898 when he was trying to heat diazomethane. The little residue left at the bottom of his test tube was polythene. However he was not credited with the invention. The actual accreditation came in 1933 and was given to Eric Fawcett and Reginald Gibson. In the two years that elapsed ICI came up with the means that enabled us to produce polythene on a global and industrial scale.
[...] By entering into China they have gained control over the Chinese Polythene market With Chinese companies not being a huge threat to British Polythene Industry the establishment becomes that much easier The Chinese domestic Polythene Industry is quite weak which opens up an opportunity to British Polythene Industry to gain monopoly China can be used as base for gaining control over the other Asian Markets on one side and neighboring China is India which is another economy which is booming and is also in need of polythene products By establishing in China the export costs will be cut down to a large extent The major benefit that British Polythene Industry can avail by its set up in China is that the business will be extremely cost effective as the materials availed is cheaper in China when compared to that of Europe and the United Kingdom. [...] To conclude on the both these Polythene Giants, British Polythene Industry and Sabic Global when compared in terms of growth measured on revenues, diversification in business, profits, dividends, earnings per share and the differences in approaches Sabic Global seems to be a safer investment option the players in the stock market, it is just a matter of time before Sabic Global's Polythene Business line takes over British Polythene Corporation in Europe and emerge as the largest and the biggest customer preferred polythene industry in not just in Europe but in the world. [...] Some interesting little tidbits about polythene are that every year approximately 60 million tons of polythene is produced and 13 billion polythene bags are consumed on a yearly basis by British shoppers along with 424 million being the turnover by British Polythene Industry in 2007 along with the average adult's usage of approximately 400 bags a year. The numbers are shocking and hardly seem possible but my personal feeling is that if we were to make a similar study for every corner of the world the numbers would be more shocking than these. [...]
[...] Though British Polythene Industry is one of the biggest polythene industries in Europe it is noticed that most of the polythene raw materials that is supplied to it comes from other small countries which shows that there is clear understanding of the needs of polythene in the European market where countries are more inter- dependent in terms of supply and availability of polythene which is good sign for the future. Note: The first polythene was discovered in Germany in the year 1898. [...]
