Today's organizations utilize an integrative model recognizing that delivery declines as employees work in isolation. Instead, they accept that productivity increases as individuals work in teams to handle assignments. They uphold the interdependence theory that states that cooperating members of a social system obtain positive outcomes, and assist to avoid negative
outcomes (Dreu & Gelfand, 2007, p. 9).
The present concept of group working in modern organizations borrows from the team working in ancient periods when individuals assembled teams to hunt, raise families and defend their communities against invasion (Kozlowski & Ilgen, 2006). Organizations using a group working approach seek to attain unified teams and enhance positive interdependence that will enable them to accomplish joint corporate goals. However, as
members of a group interact they may generate opportunities or pose challenges that may influence the organization's performance.
