Accommodation is the central element of a trip and varies according to customers' needs and the nature of the product. There are different accommodations, reservation mechanisms, and choices in terms of accommodation to suit the customers' needs. France offers varied accommodation in the form of hotels, lodges, bed and breakfast, camping homes etc. The main type of accommodation for the French comprises accommodation with friends and family. Hotels and camps occupy the second and third positions.
A hotel is a commercial establishment which offers services to customers who elect to move away from home. Within the hotel there may be benefits and related services (e.g. a restaurant, business equipment, meeting room, gym, shop, hairdresser, fun activities etc.)
Until now the hotels were classified into 6 categories from the O star to the 4 star deluxe (5 star in France). On 1st July 2009 a new classification will come into force, which will classify the hotels from 1 to 5 stars.
