Families sometimes fall onto hard times. There are many reasons why a person may become homeless, but there are not as many ways to help these families. Not every city in The United States has organizations to help with the homeless. Some cities do have different organizations which help the homeless. Not every homeless shelter helps entire families. Some help single men.
Some help single mothers as long as their male children are under the age of 12. Not many help couples with children, single fathers, or mothers with male children over the age of 12. Family Promise is one of these types of organizations but only has 129 chapters in 38 states (Olson, 2008, p. 1). They are gaining more affiliates and hope to one day cover all 51 states. Their hope is that one day their organization will no longer be a need in the community, that one day homelessness will be a thing of the past.
The goals and objectives of Family Promise are very clear. The goal is to get the family into their own homes. The objectives are to help these families gain employment, save money for their future, help low-income families get rent assistance, to keep families together, and to become stabilized.

Family Promise states the goal is to get the families into a home. Everything else that Family Promise does for its consumers are things which the family will need to keep and maintain that home. [...] They also help in getting to and from a job. They also connect families with agencies which help low income families with short or long term rental assistance. For the families with income, Family Promise helps them save money and teaches them how to create budget plans to continue to save money once they are in their own home. They give the families support.
