TESLA's key figures

In 2024, Tesla recorded a global sales number of 1.79 million vehicles, a slight decrease of about 1% compared to the previous year.

In the same year, Tesla achieved a turnover of $97.7 billion, an increase of 1% compared to 2023. It is not the automotive sector that has enabled this increase, but the group's other activities, such as energy or the multiple services present in the company. Revenue from automotive sales alone is $77 billion.

The group has several factories around the world, including 22 in France, and employs nearly 150,000 people in 2024. A reduction in the workforce in 2024 has reduced this figure by at least 14000 employees.

Group SWOT Analysis

Strengths

Tesla offers a wide range of electric vehicles, and they are now on the rise, given that the company is one of the main leaders in the segment in many countries.

The company has a strong brand image, consumers are increasingly sensitive to the ecological issue, which gives it a clear advantage over competitors. Tesla is also very advanced in everything related to innovations, especially in terms of batteries or software. Its autonomous driving systems are among the most developed on the world market.

As we said above, Tesla has seen a slight drop in sales in 2024 when it comes to its electric vehicles, but the company is still one of the most valuable on the stock market. The margin earned per vehicle sold is higher than other competitors.

Tesla has also been able to diversify, which reinforces its dominance in the sector, which also allows it to remain competitive in several markets at once.

Weaknesses

Like many companies, Tesla has weaknesses, such as a dependence on certain models, 3 and Y, which now account for more than 95% of sales. The problem is that if Tesla doesn't quickly come up with vehicles that are cheaper and could appeal to a wider population, the main competitors may quickly gain the upper hand.

In addition, Elon Musk's presence may be a weakness for the group's overall business, especially because of the words he may have had on social networks. Some customers and other partners have lost confidence in him and therefore in the brand, which can be dangerous in the long term.

In addition, several innovative products announced by the group are experiencing significant delays, which is damaging the company's brand image.

Finally, in 2024, it is difficult for Tesla to position itself as a leader in the innovation segment. Companies like BYD, Hyundai or Mercedes really make a big effort and offer great innovations every year.

Tesla is positioning itself in a very high-end market, and not all buyers can afford the luxury of buying vehicles at this price, especially since the electric vehicle sector will still have to face many challenges in the years to come.

Opportunities

Tesla is very dynamic on social networks. If we disregard Elon Musk's interventions, it is still a brand that conveys a very dynamic image of the company and more generally, that gives confidence in electric vehicles.

In addition, the group is gradually expanding into new, so-called emerging markets, such as India, where Tesla plans to establish itself this year, in order to increase the number of its customers as well as its market share. Other countries such as Africa and Latin America could be very interesting for the brand in a few years, and represent a great development opportunity; However, for the moment, this expansion is on hold because of the infrastructure for vehicle charging that is limited in these territories.

In the coming months, Tesla expects to bring a vehicle to the market that would be more affordable, and therefore more in line with the expectations of a large part of the world's population. This range should be under the $25,000 mark.

Another opportunity is the implementation of a 100% autonomous taxi on the Cybercab market, which could represent a real evolution in the years to come.

It should also be noted that Tesla is present in other areas of activity, such as energy storage. Demand in this sector is very strong, and Tesla is much better positioned than its competitors in this area. The fact that the government is clearly in favour of renewable energies is an important point for the company, which will be able to grow even more.

Finally, another opportunity lies in the promotion of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. This is a sector in which the group has a real competitive advantage.

Threats

Tesla's competitors are numerous, and they are also very aggressive, with a battle that is played out both on performance and on prices.

Thus, the Chinese company BYD tends to catch up with Tesla in terms of the number of sales. Many other manufacturers, especially European ones, are investing in the manufacture and commissioning of electric vehicles, which reinforces their legitimacy in the market.

In addition, regulations are increasingly strict, on security but also on the protection of personal data and environmental issues.

Finally, especially in Europe, Musk's speeches have resulted in a drop in sales, while knowing that Tesla remains an expensive brand and that competitors offer better options on their vehicles for a more attractive price.

Conclusion

The year 2024 remains very encouraging for Tesla, which thanks to the diversification of its activities, maintains its leading position in the world. However, the brand must be careful with the competition, which is increasingly present in the world, and which often offers more affordable prices.

The coming years will be important for Tesla, in many sectors, including innovations. Over the years, the brand will face real challenges to maintain its position in the world.
