Steps to build a convincing conclusion

The conclusion of an essay has the same importance as the introduction. A convincing and well-written conclusion can allow you to obtain a good note. That”s why you must follow the three steps of building. The first one consists in summarizing the essay in 2 or 3 sentences only   for example, in an argument subject, you will make a synthesis of your positive and negative arguments

Then in the second step, you must give your opinion. Be careful : except for a personal essay, don’t use “I” but  “we” in order to bring a neutral position. During  the third and last step, you will leave to broaden the subject of your essay. You can be inspired by the news, the books you read,...

Bad idea

Lot of students think that the conclusion must be written in the last minutes of the exam. But it happens that they have not enough time to finish. So they can’t care  their conclusion : it may disappoint the corrector who can remove some points.. If you want to propose a complete essay with a good conclusion and your introduction together before developing each part of your plan.

Examples

In this part, you will find three subjects of english essay and their conclusion. They may help you to spot each step (red for summarizing, blue for the opinion and green for broaden subject) to build a good end. Subjects 1, 3 and 4 deal with news while subject 2  is personal. The last example concerns the short essay. If you click on each link, you will access the entire essay.

Subject 1 : Science in everyday life

Today, we have many consumer goods from the simple frying-pan to the and aeroplane, from the alarm-clock to the laptop. All these things serve to make life easier and more pleasant. Science gives us safe food, free of harmful germs, in hygienic tins. The result is a healthy prolonged life. One can imagine how life must have been in pre-scientific days. Science has also improved clothing and made it more appropriate for climatic and working conditions.

We can't think of our everyday life without science.

In the conclusion 1, we will find the three steps of a conclusion. The student has broadened the subject with examples before giving his opinion but reading is easy. It gives it a journalistic style. He uses “we” and “one” to express himself.

Subject 2 : Burying Grandma

Cancer, as powerful and invincible as it may seem, is a mere fraction of a person’s life. It’s easy to forget when one’s mind and body are so weak and vulnerable. I want to be there as an oncologist to remind them to take a walk once in a while, to remember that there’s so much more to life than a diseaseWhile I physically treat their cancer, I want to lend patients emotional support and mental strength to escape the interruption and continue living. Through my work, I can accept the shovel without burying my grandmother’s memory.

The personal essay is an exercise that universities ask students to add in their registration file. Contrary to the other essays, the author can use the pronoun “I”. We can note that his opinion is clear about cancer. The third part deals with his own experience.

Subject 3 : The Sleepless city

In conclusion, the "always-on" mentality of modern society is taking a toll on our sleep, ultimately affecting our physical and mental health. Chronic sleep deprivation weakens our immune systems, diminishes cognitive abilities, and exacerbates mental health issues. To reclaim our well-being, we need to prioritize sleep hygiene. This involves creating a consistent sleep schedule, establishing a relaxing bedtime routine, and setting boundaries with technology to ensure a good night's rest. By respecting our natural sleep-wake cycle, we can unlock a path to better physical and mental health, allowing us to function at our best in our fast-paced world.

In this conclusion, the three parts are more difficult to find because we have no clues like “in my opinion”, “I think”, “we imagine”.....The author summarizes that the lack of sleep is one of modern society.disease.Then, we read that he has a healthy point of view.He ended his essay with some solutions. We note that he begins his conclusion by “ in conclusion”.

Now you will have all the keys to manage your conclusion. You must keep the interest of your reader and respect the structure we have given in the first paragraph.

 Subject 4 : Recycling

In conclusion, mandatory recycling should not be enforced by law. Recycling is a complex issue, and there are a number of benefits and drawbacks to consider. While recycling does have the potential to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, conserve natural resources, and reduce energy costs, it is also important to take into account the resources needed to implement and enforce mandatory recycling, as well as the ethical considerations involved. It is my belief that recycling should be a personal choice, and that the government should focus on incentivising and educating people, rather than forcing them to do it..

In this argument essay, the student has switched step 2 and step 3 of a conclusion. He has broaden the subject before giving his opinion.

Subject 5 : A short conclusion for a short essay

In conclusion, small dogs offer a multitude of benefits, from their limited space requirements and economic advantages to their ease of handling and portability. These charming qualities undoubtedly make small dogs a cherished choice for pet owners seeking a new companion

In a short essay, students can only summarize.
