My love of art was the reason that I picked Leonardo Da Vinci as my topic. I have always had a great interest in the subject of art. I know the techniques and different types of drawings and painting like the back of my hand, though there was one thing I was always missing. I had never even opened a book about the history of art or any artists. Choosing Leonardo as my topic gave me a great excuse to learn more about this.

For weeks Leonardo was locked up in his room with various creatures that he had brought in to study for inspiration, working on the shield. After his job was done he returned to Florence the same year after Pope Alexander died where he stayed for the next three years until 1506. (Pickrell).
